The Bible tells us that God has set eternity in the heart of man.
God created man in His Own Image and likeness. And being Eternal, He created man eternal.
So man is an eternal being.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts”, says the Scripture in [Ecclesiastes 3:11] .
Eternity is something that is beyond the comprehension of our natural minds.
We know clearly what it means.
We know that it is not bound by time or space, but we cannot comprehend it or grasp it. For our natural mind with its imagination is limited.
There may be no greater telescope than our imagination.
But it can still only stretch so far till it reaches the end of the page, before rolling over the edge into eternity, and we would have not yet even begun to comprehend it.
We all love the concept of eternity and living ‘forever’.
But there are many that think and believe that it is just a figment of our imagination, an unrealistic dream concept, which just sounds nice.
The real reason for that kind of thinking is because it goes just way beyond our imaginative comprehension.
For our natural tendency is to comprehend and believe only that which we can naturally see, or at the most, mentally / imaginatively perceive.
And yet there is so much more, that lies beyond us, which we cannot see through the lens of our mental imagination.
It can and must be seen only through the eyes of faith.
Faith does not need comprehension. Faith sees because faith believes in the truthful integrity of God’s Word.
However, what does the Inerrant and Authoritative Word of God say?
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” [1 Corinthians 2:9]
We accept the sight of this wonderful promise of God’s both spoken and written Word, because we believe it by faith.
“And faith is simply taking God at His Word”.
Let me bring to your attention, just one of the Great Attributes of God.
Scripture tells us that, “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” [Numbers 23:19]
An Eternal Heaven is as real as real can be.
This is not a fairy tale concept that begins with, ‘once upon a time’, and ends with, ‘and they lived happily ever after’.
It is real because God is real.
And God is real because we are real, for we have been made in ‘His’ Image.
Today we exist in what we call ‘time’. Tomorrow we will exist in eternity, which is ‘timeless’.
